About Vance County Schools

Public education in Vance County is changing. The Board of Education and I have worked collaboratively to develop and embrace a new, bold and audacious vision for the future of education in our county, our community and our school system.  We fully embrace the new challenges presented to us; daily finding new and innovative ways to disrupt, challenge and change the status quo.

We know and accept that building a new paradigm for education in this community will require us to celebrate strategies that are working and exercise the courage to challenge and let go of those that are not working. We are focused and engaged on improving the educational product we provide to our students and this community.

The Vance County Public School System is committed to providing a quality education to ALL students in a caring and compassionate environment, as well as delivering a rigorous and challenging curriculum in every classroom every day.  Our top priority is to ensure that every child is College Prepared and Workforce and Career Ready at the culmination of their academic journey. The support, belief and enthusiasm for this bold vision we are receiving from our stakeholders is overwhelming. We are fortunate to have great students, great staff and great supporters committed to ensuring that we reach our mission of preparing every student for a bright and prosperous future.

our story

At Vance County Schools, we are committed to providing all students and educators the opportunity to learn and grow!

We began our Opportunity Culture initiative in 2016 with Aycock, Dabney, and Zeb Vance Elementary Schools.

We plan for all VCS schools to implement Opportunity Culture by Fall 2020!
